Both Sides of the Coin
As the renowned clichã © goes, ââ¬Å"times are changingâ⬠, and so as to stay up with the snappy changes that constantly happen, individuals likewise change. Their lifestyles, acclimate to what is by all accounts the call of need. Going with this is an adjustment in the way of life and what used to be restrictions of old have become typical events in the present. One of the restrictions, which practice is seen as expanding is dwelling together (Cheal 24). In the same way as other remarkable practices, the development of dwelling together in the way of life of a nation has the two focal points and disadvantages.Cohabitation or living respectively might be characterized as a non-conjugal association (Brien et. l. ). It has various aspects. Some consider it to be an option for marriage while others see it as a method of discovering affirmation for an enduring marriage (ââ¬Å"The Facts behind Cohabitationâ⬠). In the 1970ââ¬â¢s, examines have discovered that various youthfu l grown-ups selected to defer marriage and chose to live together. The expanding number of living together prompted a decrease in relationships (Cheal 24). The decrease in marriage end up being one of the drawbacks of living together. Since marriage guarantees the authenticity of future youngsters, dwelling together may result to progressively ill-conceived children. This may create kids with insecure passionate and instructive improvement because of interruptions on their family life (ââ¬Å"The Facts behind Cohabitationâ⬠). Another drawback is that there is a high likelihood of rate of undermining the two gatherings included. On account of the non-duty nature of this sort of association, there is no convincing power that guarantees devotion for the two accomplices. There are no rails that may keep both the man and the lady included loyally to one another and to the alleged relationship they are into (ââ¬Å"The Facts behind Cohabitationâ⬠).A third detriment that a few cou ples see as a bit of leeway of this sort of set up is that it doesn't console of an enduring marriage toward the finish, all things considered, It has been discovered that couples who live respectively before genuine marriage have precarious associations and normally end up in separate. The absence of responsibility that the couples have developed into during living together may mean less will to work for the advancement of a relationship, yet more will to cut off an unacceptable association (Brien et. al. 2). In spite of this, there are still couple who pick dwelling together as opposed to marriage. Some couples discover the burdens that were prior referenced dominated by the favorable circumstances they find in this non-conjugal set-up. In one case, couples who are less monetarily steady however wants to be together decide on dwelling together as it is less expensive when contrasted with a real marriage. The expenses and advantage framework require a lot of cash. Accordingly, indiv iduals whose wages are low and whose employments are unpredictable think that its simpler to live together as opposed to authoritatively get hitched (ââ¬Å"The Facts behind Cohabitationâ⬠).Another preferred position of dwelling together comparative with funds is the non-responsibility nature of the set-up. Since there is no agreement that was marked and there are no formal and lawful terms that were settled upon, partition is as simple as getting together. There is no compelling reason to record and experience the tiring procedure of separation particularly when the relationship is done working. This functions admirably with couples whose cash has preferred things to go to over separation cases (ââ¬Å"The Facts behind Cohabitationâ⬠). To finish up, individuals who think of it as an untouchable have motivations to see it as such. There are numerous reasons why for certain couples, it is a training that ought not be bolstered and rather repudiated. Then again, it ought to l ikewise be noticed that there are additionally reasons that demonstrate for dwelling together as a superior alternative when contrasted with real marriage. Individuals who are expert dwelling together ordinarily have individual reasons in settling on this sort of set-up. All things considered, the issue of dwelling together should not be trifled with since it might influence the solidarity of a country, particularly that which maintain a personââ¬â¢s own sentiment.

Middle School vs. High School Essay
Getting up on the morning of the primary day of secondary school felt like butterflies assumed control over my stomach. I needed to assemble a dazzling outfit, fix my hair, and put on engaging cosmetics. Realizing that in about an hour I would enter a very surprising school condition than what Iââ¬â¢m used to terrified me. Inside each time of the school day, the butterflies began to shudder out of my stomach and into my new learning climate. Despite the fact that understudies will in general dread secondary school and think it is a bad dream to progress from center school to the following level, going to secondary school isn't quite a bit of an emotional change. Prior to starting secondary school, you are required to pick levels that you feel good with that compare with the school-picked courses. You likewise need to pick three elective classes. Any of these classes could incorporate Art, Chorus, Intro to Family and Consumer Science, Accounting, Graphic Presentations, and some more. The entirety of your picked classes get a letter grade, much the same as center school, yet the necessary classes are picked by your scholastic ability. For instance, in the event that you are the sort of understudy that doesn't do well academic, you would pick a level three class. This choice is an extraordinary method to improve in school. Likewise in secondary school, there are increasingly extracurricular choices. Secondary school offers a various measure of clubs and sports. From soccer and swimming to ping pong club and French club. On the off chance that any of the extracurricular exercises donââ¬â¢t intrigue you, you even have the chance to make your own club with the assistance of an instructor. In center school, your classes are now chosen and you can't transform them. These classes are compulsory, much the same as secondary school, yet everybody learns at a similar level. This can be a drawback for understudies who take more time to process than others. Likewise, in center school, you can't make your own clubs. The games and clubs the school gives are your lone determinations. Progressing to secondary school is a major eye opener particularly as a result of the individuals. Folks have facial hair and young ladies are progressively developed. Secondary school goes connected at the hip with a wide range of sorts of individuals and various kinds of clubs too. A few models are muscle heads, geeks, populars, addicts, and gays. In center school, there were less individuals making everybody natural withâ each other. Some being naã ¯ve and unpracticed, they are not used to seeing various kinds of individuals. By and large, secondary school is much greater. Not exclusively is there a ground floor, yet an upstairs too and there are a lot more lobbies. Despite the fact that classes are more distant separated, there is additional time in the middle of classes. Indeed, three minutes more than center school. This permits time to go to your storage before a class and you can even stop to talk in the lobbies. Since center school permitted just two minutes in the middle of classes, you must be snappy with trading books. In secondary school, you can take as much time as is needed and show up to class on schedule. The change to secondary school is a major advance in training, however it doesn't need to be a dreaded one. Another condition carries with it new difficulties and stresses, be that as it may, sooner or later you will acknowledge it wasnââ¬â¢t quite a bit of a striking change as you suspected.

The financial world post global crisis of 2007 is vastly different than what it was before. Many factors that were paid little or no importance prior to crisis can no longer be ignored. Increasing number of multinational banks got their branches or subsidiaries opened globally. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Current Indian Banking System Finance Essay" essay for you Create order With their increased presence and dominance, it was assumed that the formula for success in this sector has been discovered and mastered. Massive size, wide diversification across the entire spectrum of financial activities, intermediation, investment and insurance and global presence, combined with large pecuniary incentives were, apparently, the most effective way to achieve and sustain competitive advantage (Insan, Pinki Warne, D.P., 2011). The global crisis has made it clearly visible that these ways do not possess the required capability to sustain the financial businesses for long term. More so over, it was discovered that two key factors, rapid expansion and diversification, which were presumed to be contributing to success of banks were actually responsible not only for this downfall of banks but also for the financial industry globally. Though the banks were growing big but they failed to match their capabilities in risk identification and mitigation at the same pace. In this highly tangled economy, banks failure to manage risks effectively can result in its collapse causing a ripple effect on all other banks and ultimately resulting in failure of industry as a whole ,as seen in current global crisis (initiated by American banks) or during the Asian crisis of 1997-1998 (Aduda and Gitonga, 2011). Beyond the banking industry, it is also governments that are pulled in (when having to bail-out the industry thus saddling them with large debts) and the economy as a whole as the lifeblood of economy, i.e. financing is slowed down during the credit crunch. Banks become more more reluctant to lend money to anyone but the safest of all clients. The Current Indian Banking System The banking sector throughout the world is going through momentous changes and the banking sector in India is no exception to it. It is rapidly improving itself to be at par with global banks and survive the competition from foreign banks operating in India. Indian banking sector has undergone significant changes since its independence in 1947 and specifically major changes since the economy liberalization in early 1990s. The banking sector in India has extensive network, developed in order to support its growing and fast paced economy. The banks of India perform the dual role, one that of preserving countrys wealth and second that of a reservoir of resources required for development of countrys economy. For the growth of any country, it is of utmost importance that its financial industry and banks are developed and matured. Similar is the case in Indian scenario. Indian banking industry saw a surge of foreign banks in late1980s and early 1990s, post Uruguay Round of multilatera l trade negotiations under the aegis of General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). During this period, there was significant increase in share of foreign banks in parameters such as income, deposits, investment, loans and advances and assets. However, in late 1990s it was observed that share of foreign banks in terms of profitability fell considerably. Two major factors that influenced this change were increase in efficiency of public sector banks and entry of private sector banks in Indian banking industry. Indian banks, both private and public, in their process of integration and globalization adopted international banking standards and practices. Currently, Indian banking sector comprises of 84 organizations, including 27 public sector banks, 27 private sector banks and 33 foreign banks operating in India. The Reserve Bank of India, i.e. Indian central bank, also identifies 30 state cooperative banks, 95 regional rural banks and 55 urban cooperative banks. The public secto r banking sector consists of 19 nationalized banks, State Bank of India (SBI), seven associates of SBI and the Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI)à [1]à . The role of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Indian Banking system The Reserve Bank of India is the central banking institution of India, established in 1935 and nationalized in 1945. RBI is the governing authority that plays the pivotal role of formulating, implementing and monitoring Indias monetary policies. Being the backbone of Indian economics, Reserve Bank of India also helps government of India and state governments in developing their finance strategies. In addition, RBI also acts as regulator and supervisor of countrys financial system. It defines the parameters within which any bank or financial agency has to operate in Indian market. Under the section 42(1) of the RBI act, it is mandatory for all commercial banks in India to maintain an account and deposit defined cash, called as Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) with Reserve Bank of India. Besides CRR, RBI also requires Indian banks to maintain Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) i.e. to put prescribed amount of liquid assets such as gold, cash and approved securities with RBI. It uses variance in bank/interest rate to not only maintain ample liquidity in the system but also to roll back excess liquidity, once the required economic growth has been attained. Ensuring that there is sufficient liquidity available in the market restores confidence of investors into banks and into financial markets. All these measures are used by RBI to hedge against uncertainty of outcomes countrys monetary policiesà [2]à . According to World Bank report, GDP growth rate of India was 9.8% in 2007 and 3.89% in 2008. The sharp decline in growth rate was the direct impact of global financial crisis. As a measure to curb this sharp fall, RBI introduced number of fiscal stimulus packages and other measures to cushion the impact and enhance the economic growth. For a long term fiscal consolidation, RBI uses combination of monetary and debt management tools to streamline government borrowing programs and consequently, spurs investment demand. In first half of 2009-10, RBI launched Open Market Operations (OMO) purchases and Market Stabilization Scheme (MSS) which will reduce CRR by three percentage points and thus, will leave adequate resources with banks to expand credit to potential investors. Besides regulating, countrys monetary and fiscal policy, Reserve Bank of India also provides commercial banks with payment and settlement infrastructure. All inter-banks transactions are routed via RBI. The global financial crisis and its impact on Indian banks With the increasing globalization and ever increasing participation of India in world trade, it would have been immature to expect that global crisis had no impact on Indian economy. Though the Indian banks did not have significant presence outside India and were not directly exposed to sub-prime mortgages by foreign investments banks, still the global crisis created an impact on Indian economy and thus, on its financial sector, trade flows and exchange rates (Kumar and Vashisht, 2009). The three main entities that constitutes Indian financial sector are banks, equity markets and external commercial borrowings. Each of these entities was differently affected by global crisis. RBI maintains very stringent controls over Indian banks and during this period, it further tightened its controls. One of such significant steps taken by RBI during the crisis was the increase of requirements in loan evaluation for all real estate related requests, which in turn help to decrease the probabi lity of real estate price bubble. Except one bank, ICICI, most Indian banks were not exposed to sub-prime mortgages. ICICI got jitters from global crisis but its strong balance sheet and support by government helped it sail smoothly through the crisis. The banking sector as a whole declared a profitability of 43% for the third quarter of 2008, maintained a capital risk weighted ratio (CRAR) of 13% and brought non-performing assets well within the acceptable normsà [3]à . Though Indian banks did not have considerable direct impacts but indirect impacts were quite large. As soon as Lehman Brothers collapsed, there was high liquidity squeeze in global market which was immediately passed on to squeeze in Indian market. The banks and corporations which were earlier relying on foreign sources for their credit demand had to then focus completely on domestic banking sector, and this in turn fuelled the short-term lending rates. Also, seeing the collapse of major banks world over, Ind ian banks became more risk averse and consequently resulted in decline of credit expansion rate. The other indirect impact which prominently surfaced during this period was the transfer of capital from private banks to public banks. Under the Indian bank Nationalization Act, it is stated that all obligations of public sector banks will be met by Indian government in case of any failure. This was a huge factor which made investors believe that their deposits will be way safer in public banks and thus gravitated their capital towards public banks (Viral V. Acharya1 and Nirupama Kulkarni, 2012)à [4]à . The significance of risk management in Indian banks

Ethical Issues in Film - 1518 Words
Racial profiling is a term society has become familiar with in the past few years; however, it is not a new phenomenon. Racial profiling according to Fredrickson, occurs when law enforcement officials rely on race, skin color, and/or ethnicity as an indication of criminality, reasonable suspicion, or probable cause, except when it is part of the description of a particular suspect (1). There are many opposing views on racial profiling; some believe it to be a useful tool used by law enforcement, while others believe it to be another way to discriminate against minorities. This paper sets out to examine racial profiling from its origin to present day, taking a look into both sides of the racial profiling issue to find what if any laws areâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦On the other hand, there those who believe in civil rights and that each and every individual has the freedom to live without the harassment of law enforcement constantly lingering in the back of his or her mind. These i ndividuals hold the opinion that racial profiling is just another way to discriminate against minorities within the US (Balkin). The United States Government tends to agree with those who believe it is a form of discrimination, thus allowing State and Federal agencies to take active roles to eliminate or to lessen the occurrence of racial profiling by law enforcement agencies. On June 9, 1998 the Transportation Equity Act (TEA) was passed, which was the first federal racial profiling provision. The TEA included a provision that allows states to apply for federal funds up to sixty million over six years to develop racial profiling laws, to maintain racial data of vehicle stops by police and to train law enforcement officers so that they do not make stops on the basis of race. The provision contained tough requirements for qualifying for the federal grant funding, including a state law prohibiting the use of race or ethnicity of drivers or passengers to any degree in making traffic stops. Also a state must maintain racial and ethnic statistics on each and every vehicle stopped (Pampel). Music Store has permitted the consumer to purchase music and delta books over the Internet with success. By 2005 their shares Increase significantly as a result of their tremendous success. Their product became a platform for the digital music business to explode into the industry it is today. This also made digital music affordable to the consumer who may have gone to illegal downloads in the past which in turn ensured that the music industry was getting paid for their product as well. The $0. 99 cents per song download provided $0. Cents to be paid to the record companies and the remainder ($0. 29 cents) was Apple profit. By August 2005, some of the larger record companies felt that their product was underpinned and requested that flexible prizes were instituted. However, this was not a shared opinion by all, the fear was that the market might not be stable enough to survive a price increase when illegal downloading was widespread. Due to Its power, Apple kept the same prices, however by January 008, Amazon. Mom entered the market place with a similar product without all of the restrictions that were placed on music in the tunes Store. Questions 1) Provide an argument for why a variable pricing policy might increase the sales revenue from Apples Music Store (compared to the flat pricing policy). Life is complicated, but Apple Computer s Tunes store Is pretty simple: Download a song and pay $0. 99 cents. In 2009, Apple announced that for the first time would allow beginning implementing variable pricing on the tunes Music Store. Instead of a absolute $0. Cent price point, record labels would now have the option to charge $1. 29 for more popular songs and $0. 69 for less popular tracks. It was not too long before almost every top song on Tunes Jumped from $0. 99 to $1. 29. While most tracks that saw an increase In price suffered a small drop In sales, the $0. 30 price difference more than made up for that fact, worked to Increase overall revenues. Apples position during the time to increase the price of popular songs was global. Many of Apples products such as the pod and laptops were sold all over the world. The tunes Music Store was highly successful, and has already accomplished large user numbers. The change in price did not suggest a complete renovation in the way people downloaded and listened to their music. Also, Digital downloading of music Is Just one of the many markets that Apple has recruited Into. Under a new pricing plan such a market power, the new pricing strategy was another successful for the company. 2) Discuss other potential pricing policies that might increase the revenue from Music Store sales. With the increase in the demand for online-based music, Apple is keel to increase its prices to gain more from its products. The company cannot however enforce high prices on the consumers because the sale of online music is still in a changing stage. Apple could consider other pricing schemes like a bundle pricing where they combine popular and unpopular music or getting the latest popular music across genres. This could expand customer base to different genres and increase the sales of unpopular songs. The bundling strategy will help in Increasing profits by extracting additional consumer surplus. They also could offer an entire group of songs, as a group, for a single price. The company could resort to sale of large music files such as Amps, JEEP and MPH and other music formats for various consumer needs (Brinkley, Smith, Zimmerman, 2009). 3) What are the risks and potential costs of implementing more sophisticated pricing schemes for the downloaded music? Sophisticated pricing tools are potentially available to provide contrast to the uniform pricing model that used to implement tunes. This sophisticated alternative tools may include song-specific pricing, pure bundling, axed bundling, two-part tariffs among others that could be use to raise revenue. If firms have market power they can raise their prices without losing all customers to competitors. Firms have as ultimate objective to choose the pricing policy that boosts the value of the firm. Managers are trying all the time to devise a pricing policy that captures as much gain as possible catching costumer surplus as company profit. For managers and companies in general, only incremental prices matter in pricing decisions. As this case show, tunes has certain power on their loyal costumers and infringing the risk of some decreases on sales, tunes took the risk when they increase their songs prices and at the end, the most loyal costumers remained whit the company. The potential costs were evident when tunes suffered at the first moments a fall in sales. Was very worrying that people were still able to download free music from other sites.Nevertheless, tunes survived, and the company was still betting on pods sales at the same time. 4) Is Apples pricing objective to maximize the revenue it receives from the sales of the downloaded music? Is this the objective of the major record companies? Explain. (Hint: review the revenue/product data from Apples 10-K) Apple as all companies is interested in maximize its revenues, but it not its objective reach it trough the downloaded music pricing strategies which is the objective of the record companies.Apple is a successful company that has a lot of attractive pr oducts that convert all the costumers in loyal fans of Apple. The Company is confronted by aggressive competition in all areas of its business; the markets for the Companys products and services are highly competitive. The Companys competitors who sell mobile devices and personal amputees based on other operating systems have aggressively cut prices and lowered their product margins to gain or maintain market share. However, Apple is focused on expanding its market opportunities related to personal computers and innovation and integration of the entire solution including the hardware (phone and Pod), software (tunes), online services (cloud), and distribution of digital content and applications (tunes Store). The Companys ability to compete successfully depends heavily upon its ability to ensure a continual and timely flow of competitive routs, services and technologies to the marketplace. The Company continues to develop new technologies to enhance existing products and to expand the range of TTS product offerings through research and developme nt. On the other hand record companies are Just interested in gaining the greatest among of money from each company that distribute the music on which they have rights, they matter is to collect the most possible from every song downloaded. 5)Do you think that Apples ability to control the pricing of downloaded music is likely to change in the future? Explain. My arsenal opinion is that Apple has a huge recognition all around the world.Apple has been able to achieve its position with prodigious skills in the market. Nowadays, as we all know, Apple has the most loyal costumers in the world. Every single time that Apple launches a new product the most loyal costumers excited sleep for nights on the doors of the stores to be the first ones buying the new products that always offer the most cutting-edge advances in technology. I would say that Apples ability to control its prices related to downloaded music would not change too much in the ext future. In deed, Apple has increasingly assumed the control of technological development in the industry. The Company is committed to bringing the best user experience to its customers through its innovative hardware, software and services. Apple is pioneered providing its customers new products and solutions with superior ease-of-use, seamless integration, and innovative design, every time getting closer to the wishes of consumers. Fall Of Russian Communism Essays - Free Essays, Term Papers
Fall Of Russian Communism Essays - Free Essays, Term Papers Fall Of Russian Communism The Reasons for the fall of Socialism/Communism and the Troubles of Starting the New Democratic System in the Russian Federation Let's not talk about Communism. Communism was just an idea, just pie in the sky. Boris Yeltsin (b. 1931), Russian politician, president. Remark during a visit to the U.S. Quoted in: Independent (London, 13 Sept. 1989). The fall of the Communist regime in the Soviet Union was more than a political event. The powerful bond between economics and politics that was the integral characteristic of the state socialist system created a situation that was unique for the successor states of the Soviet Union. The Communist regime was so ingrain in every aspect of Soviet life that the Russian people were left with little democratic tradition. Russia faces the seemingly impracticable task of economic liberalization and democratization. This is combined with the fact that the new administration must address human rights issues, such as living conditions and the supply of staple goods in this new form of administration makes the prospect of a full democratic switch seemingly impossible. To fully understand the scope of the transference of governing power in the Russian Federation, one must first look at the old Socialist/Communist regime, to see the circumstances under which it fell gives a good view of why this transference is almost impossible. In the beginning Communism seemed to the people of Russia as a utopian ideal. The promise of the elimination of classes, of guaranteed employment , The creation of a comprehensive social security and welfare system for all citizens that would end the misery of workers once and for all. Lenin's own interpretation of the Marxian critique was that to achieve Communism there would first have to be a socialist dictatorship to first suppress any dissent or protest. Through coercive tactics this new government seized power and in 1917 Lenin came to power. Under his rule the Soviet Union underwent radical changes in it's economic doctrines adopting a mixed economy which was termed the New Economic Policy also referred to as NEP, this economy called for some private ownership of the means of production, but the majority of industry was made property of the people, which meant the majority of the means of production was controlled by the government. Lenin's government made many achievements. It ended a long civil war against the remnants of the old Czarist military system and established institutions in government. During this period, and in fact throughout the majority of the Communist rule, censorship and the subordination of interest groups such as trade unions was imposed to stop dissension and increase conformity to the new governments policies. Lenin died in 1924, and was quickly followed by Joseph Stalin as head of the Soviet Communist Party, the oppressive reforms started by Lenin were continued and at length became completely totalitarian. Stalin became the most powerful man in Russia. He controlled to bulk of all the political power and with that he started a ruthless campaign of removing all opposition to the Communist rule. During this period called the Great Purge Stalin systemically executed anyone who stood in his path. Millions of people were arrested and either harassed or killed. The economic status of the Soviet Union was yet again changed and the entire system became controlled by the government. All private ownership ended. A mass program of industrialization was commenced, and the strength of the Soviet Military was substantially increased. The citizens during this period endured great hardship. Agricultural production output diminished resulting in food shortages, these shortages were enha! nce by the mass exportation of food, this was done to pay for industrial imports. Stalin also put the production of what he called production goods such as manufacturing machinery over basic consumer goods such as clothes and other staples. During this period the Second World War broke out and drained most of what was left of the already impoverished state. Yet after the war national unity was strengthened as well is the Soviet military machine. The Soviet Union became a super power, the U.S. being the only country more powerful than it. After the death of Stalin in 1953 Nikita Khrushchev became First Secretary of the Communist party. Stalin's death marked

The Evolution of Greek Tragedy
The Evolution of Greek Tragedy Today, a trip to the theater is still a special event, but in Ancientà Athens, it wasnt just a time for cultural enrichment or entertainment. It was a religious, competitive, and civic festival event, part of the annual City (or Greater) Dionysia: We might want to imagine the atmosphere of the ancient drama festivals as a combination of Mardi Gras, the gathering of the faithful in St Peters Square on Easter Day, the crowds that throng the Mall on the Fourth of July, and the hype of Oscars night.- Ian C. Storey When Cleisthenes reformed Athens to make it more democratic, it is thought that he included competition between the groups of citizens in the form of dramatic, performing dithyrambic choruses. Be that as it may, Tragedy- as also Comedy- was at first mere improvisation. The one originated with the authors of theà Dithyramb, the other with those of the phallic songs, which are still in use in many of our cities. Tragedy advanced by slow degrees; each new element that showed itself was in turn developed. Having passed through many changes, it found its natural form, and there it stopped.- Aristotle Poetics Taxes,à A Civic Obligation Well in advance of the Elaphebolion (an Athenian month that ran from late March to early April) event, the city magistrate selected 3 patrons of the arts (choregoi) to finance the performances. It was an onerous form of taxation (liturgy) the wealthy were required to perform- but not every year. And the wealthy had a choice: they could supply Athens with a performance or a battleship. Thisà obligation included: Housing and feeding the chorus and actors.Selecting chorus members (young men about to enter the military).Hiring a chorus director (didaskalos) who trained the 12-15 non-professional dancers (choreuts), for a year, to perform, sing, and dance in the chorus.Providing a place to train.Paying for a dedication to Dionysus if he won. Professionals and Amateur Actors While the chorus was composed of (well-trained) non-professionals, the playwright and actors had, as Didaskalia puts it, leisure with a passion for the theater. Some of the actors became such polished celebrities their participation would give an unfair advantage, so the lead actor, protagonist, was assigned by lot to a playwright who was expected to compose a tetralogy, direct, choreograph, and act in his own plays. A tetralogy consisted of three tragedies and a satyr play- like a dessert at the end of the heavy, serious drama. Partly humorous or farcical, satyr-plays featured the half human, half animal creatures known as satyrs. Visual Aids for the Audience By convention, the actors in tragedy appeared larger than life. Since there were about 17,000 open-air seats in the theater of Dionysus (on the south slope of the Acropolis), going more than halfway around the circular dance floor (orchestra), this exaggeration must have made the actors more recognizable. They wore long, colorful robes, high headdresses, cothurnoi (shoes), and masks with largemouth holes to facilitate ease of speech. Men played all the parts. One actor might play more than one role, since there were only 3 actors, even by Euripides (c. 484-407/406) day. A century earlier, in the 6th century, when the first dramatic competition was held, there was only oneà actor whose role was to interact with the chorus. The semi-legendary playwright of the first play with an actor was Thespis (from whose name comes the word thespian). Stage Effects In addition to the actors accouterments, there were elaborate devices for special effects. For instance, cranes could whisk gods or people on and off stage. These cranes were called mechane or machina in Latin; hence, our term deus ex machina. The skene (from which, scene) a building or tent at the back of the stage that was used from the time of Aeschylus (c. 525-456), could be painted to provide scenery. The skene was at the edge of the circular orchestra (dance floor of the chorus). The skene also provided a flat roof for action, a backstage for the actors preparation, and a door. The ekkyklema was a contraption for rolling scenes or people onto the stage. Dionysia and the Theater At the City Dionysia, the tragedians each presented a tetralogy- four plays, consisting of three tragedies and a satyr play. The theater was in the temenos (sacred precinct) of Dionysus Eleuthereus. The priest was seated in the center of the first row of the theatron. It may be that there were originally 10 wedges (kekrides) of seats to correspond with the 10 tribes of Attica, but the number was 13 by the 4th century B.C. Tragedy Terms Tragic Ironyà happens when the audience knows what is going to happen but the actor is still ignorant. Hamartia:à The downfall of the tragic hero is caused by hamartia. This isnt a willful act in violation of the laws of the gods, but a mistake or excess.Hubris:à Excessive pride can lead to the downfall of the tragic hero.Peripeteia:à Aà sudden reversal of fortune.Catharsis:à Ritual cleansing and emotional cleansing by the end of the tragedy. Male Cultural Competence response Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Male Cultural Competence response - Assignment Example Therefore, the multiculturalism cornerstone remains in establishing an appropriate understanding of peopleââ¬â¢s sociopolitical histories as well as the peopleââ¬â¢s histories and the groups to which they belong. During treatments, it is significantly important for the development of an alliance between the clinician and the client for a better therapy. In such a perspective, masculine oriented therapy does not necessarily mean that the clinician has interests in an individualââ¬â¢s masculinity; however, such information is important for the establishment of an alliance. From the student post, it is evident that the patient is given unsatisfactory treatment based on his past behaviors. Because of discriminations, it is proper that clinicians understand their therapistââ¬â¢s values and worldview in order to develop a strong alliance during therapy and offer appropriate treatment (Healy, 2005). As such, the clinicians and another medical staff would offer treatments without any bias, or assumptions by understanding that indeed people are different from the varied cultural variances. Appropriate training and education are crucial in the development of male- culturally appropriate interventions and strategies, especially for therapists as in instances of learning to discuss issues of race and racism. Male as a gender has certain characteristics and activates associated with it. As such, men tend to participate in certain activities, having the strengths-based approach, which are ideally positive factors of engagements in optimizing the available conditions for positive development and creativity in the minimization of the possible risk practices (Berg-Weger et al., 2001).à Certain elementsà of theà maleà strengths approach of a manââ¬â¢s interaction with other men involve the recognition and focus on strengths and capabilities as a means of responding to challenges that one faces as well as depersonalizing the problems.

Death Script pertaining to chronic illness Assignment
Death Script pertaining to chronic illness - Assignment Example As I became immersed in my reverie I imagined my husband and my mother at my side when the doctor gave me the dreaded news that I had leukemia. I saw myself not being able to respond at all to what the doctor was telling us. My motherââ¬â¢s silent sniffle seemed distant and unreal and I couldnââ¬â¢t bring myself to see my husband. The news of death shocked me to the extent that I kind of forgot my surroundings and the people I loved so dearly. Itââ¬â¢s almost as though that moment was reserved just for me. A hope still lingered at the back of my mind that my physician may be mistaken, that the possibility of finding cure elsewhere would be worth making the effort for. I tried to comfort myself with the thought that I wasnââ¬â¢t the only one dying. After all people die every day, every second even and itââ¬â¢s just a reality check that everyone has to come to terms with (CDC 2009). I suppose Iââ¬â¢m better off than a lot of people who die at such a young age having not even started their lives. I tried to rationalize the news of my death by considering the fact that middle aged women are most prone to die if they have leukemia (Emedtv n.d). I comfort myself with the thought that at least I gave birth to five beautiful children and I got to raise them to be good human beings. I got the opportunity to bond with a man who fathered my children and made me feel special in so many ways. Still the agony, the betrayal of life itself and the fear of not knowing what lay ahead of me gave me a sinking feeling, sucking out all my happiness in an instant. As days passed by it felt like I was already dead. My mother was constantly at my side and as much as my husband wanted to be there someone had to stay home to take care of my children and tend to worldly affairs. My mother would try to distract me to take my mind off of my illness but I knew that it was all she could think about too. I wished I could spend

New Beginnings in Whos Afraid of Virginia Woolf :: Whos Afraid Virginia Woolf
New Beginnings in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfà à Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf is a disturbing and powerful work. Ironically, it is disturbing and powerful for many of the same reasons. As the audience watches George and Martha tear savagely at each other with the knives of hurled words, sharpened on pain and aimed to draw blood, the way in which these two relentlessly go at each other is awful to see, yet strangely familiar. Like wounded animals, they strike out at those closest to them, and reminds one of scenes witnessed as a child between screaming parents from a cracked door when one is supposed to be in bed. In this age of psychoanalytic jargon, George and Martha are the quintessentially dysfunctional couple. Yet, with all their problems, Albee reveals that there is a positive core of feeling that unites these two troubled people and that helps them look beyond their self-created hell. The truth of their relationship is exposed layer by layer as the play progresses, like the peeling of an onion, and though the pattern of this truth appears vague at first, with each cycle of revelation, the pattern becomes more distinct, and the picture is fully revealed in the final, cathartic scene. One of the most consistent themes of the play is the question of George and Martha's "child," and all that this child, and children in general, symbolizes for them. The "child" seems not only a desire for fecundity within their relationship, but also a projection through which they express many of their personal desires, needs, and problems, and, in this context, the child's subsequent "death" signifies a mi lestone in their understanding of their marriage and of themselves. By the end of play, after much suffering and flagellation, George and Martha appear ready to deal with their lives in a new way. George and Martha have a history. They are also emotionally trapped by this history, especially that of their respective childhoods. As a consequence, both are plagued by low self-image and self-doubt. The audience learns of this history slowly, in bits and pieces. Martha tells Nick and Honey in Act 1 how she lost her mother early and grew up very close to her father. She was married briefly, but her father had the marriage annulled. She returned to live with her father after college, and met and fell in love with George.

Expository Paper Essay
Everyone needs some sort of schooling to be successful in life. In school, students learn to read, write, process thoughts and ideas and apply knowledge to outside situations. No one can argue the point that school and education arenââ¬â¢t necessary, because the thought is absurd. In my opinion though, school had become a competition instead of an education. Students have become so focused on being the best in their class, having a GPA a hundredth of a point higher than their friend, being involved in extra-curricular activities, and obtaining as much knowledge to the point of just memorizing rather than understanding. Believing that an average public school education will give you the knowledge you need to be successful in everything that you do in order to make a living is an incredibly false perception. Schooling gives you an education which sets a foundation for like, but how will you live if youââ¬â¢ve never had to think about living? Life lessons are important, but if youââ¬â¢re too busy focusing on schooling and memorizing pointless information, when will you learn to live? You wont get anywhere without having a basic knowledge of people skills and what you should expect from life once you turn 18. These days, the prestige universities are more interested in students who are well rounded and have an understanding of the world around them. Having an understanding of how the world is and will be is ultimately the most important idea you could ever learn. In order to bring education back to its sole purpose, we have to drop the constant competition. The issue with trying to back off competition and return to the original purpose of an education is who will start the trend. People canââ¬â¢t drop what theyââ¬â¢re doing and back off to think about the real meaning of education. Because of selfish ambition, thatââ¬â¢s impossible. Reevaluation of the system of schooling and learning is vital not necessarily this generation, but our children, and our childrenââ¬â¢s children. If our year of teenagers is messed up by pressure of society, imagine 100 years from now.

How to Balance Net Ionic Equations
These are the steps to write a balanced net ionic equation and a worked example problem. Steps To Balance Ionic Equations Write the net ionic equation for the unbalanced reaction. If you are given a word equation to balance, youll need to be able to identify strong electrolytes, weak electrolytes, and insoluble compounds. Strong electrolytes dissociate entirely into their ions in water. Examples of strong electrolytes are strong acids, strong bases, and soluble salts. Weak electrolytes yield very few ions in solution, so they are represented by their molecular formula (not written as ions). Water, weak acids, and weak bases are examples of weak electrolytes. The pH of a solution can cause them to dissociate, but in those situations, youll be presented an ionic equation, not a word problem. Insoluble compounds do not dissociate into ions, so they are represented by the molecular formula. A table is provided to help you determine whether or not a chemical is soluble, but its a good idea to memorize the solubility rules.Separate the net ionic equation into the two half-reactions. This means identifying and separating the reaction into an oxidation half-reaction and a reduction half-reaction.For one of the half-reactions, balance the atoms except for O and H. You want the same number of atoms of each element on each side of the equation.Repeat this with the other half-reaction.Add H2O to balance the O atoms. Add H to balance the H atoms. The atoms (mass) should balance out now.Balance charge. Add e- (electrons) to one side of each half-reaction to balance charge. You may need to multiply the electrons by the two half-reactions to get the charge to balance out. Its fine to change coefficients as long as you change them on both sides of the equation.Add the two half-reactions together. Inspect the final equation to make sure it is balanced. Electrons on both sides of the ionic equation must cancel out.Double-check your work! Make sure there are equal numbers of each type of atom on both sides of the equation. Make sure the overall charge is the same on both sides of the ionic equation.I f the reaction takes place in a basic solution, add an equal number of OH- as you have H ions. Do this for both sides of the equation and combine H and OH- ions to form H2O.Be sure to indicate the state of each species. Indicate solid with (s), liquid for (l), gas with (g), and an aqueous solution with (aq).Remember, a balanced net ionic equation only describes chemical species that participate in the reaction. Drop additional substances from the equation. Example The net ionic equation for the reaction you get mixing 1 M HCl and 1 M NaOH is: H(aq) OH-(aq) ââ â H2O(l) Even though sodium and chlorine exist in the reaction, the Cl- and Na ions are not written in the net ionic equation because they dont participate in the reaction. Solubility Rules in Aqueous Solution Ion Solubility Rule NO3- All nitrates are soluble. C2H3O2- All acetates are soluble except silver acetate (AgC2H3O2), which is moderately soluble. Cl-, Br-, I- All chlorides, bromides, and iodides are soluble except Ag+, Pb+, and Hg22+. PbCl2 is moderately soluble in hot water and slightly soluble in cold water. SO42- All sulfates are soluble except sulfates of Pb2+, Ba2+, Ca2+, and Sr2+. OH- All hydroxides are insoluble except those of the Group 1 elements, Ba2+, and Sr2+. Ca(OH)2 is slightly soluble. S2- All sulfides are insoluble except those of the Group 1 elements, Group 2 elements, and NH4+. Sulfides of Al3+ and Cr3+ hydrolyze and precipitate as hydroxides. Na+, K+, NH4+ Most salts of sodium-potassium and ammonium ions are soluble in water. There are some exceptions. CO32-, PO43- Carbonates and phosphates are insoluble, except those formed with Na+, K+, and NH4+. Most acid phosphates are soluble.
